These little rose apple tarts are deceptively easy and simple in ingredients. You will essentially need apples and gluten free (or regular if tolerated) pie crust and some rolling skills. Healthy, quick to make, and very pretty to look at.
Recipe
After making, chilling and flattening out gluten free dough and slicing into 2 inch wide strips, simply half and slice apples into half moons. The key is to slice the apples as thinly as possible so that they can bend easily when rolled into roses... so we're talking about inhumanly thin slices.
Place apple slices along dough–the end of each slice covering one another–leaving half the dough uncovered so it can later be folded over apples.
Drizzle with honey, and sprinkle with cinnamon (and cloves or nutmeg if desired).
Fold the dough over the bottom of the apples as if tucking them in and very carefully roll into a rose shape.
To give an extra shine, brush pastry and apples in coconut oil or egg whites.
Bake at 350ºF/180ºC for 30-40 minutes until dough is set. Dust with powdered sugar.
